But there’s way more to do in Truth or Consequences than just soak in hot springs–which is, to be fair, a pretty incredible reason to visit. There’s also a charming downtown area, nearby hikes, and more.

1. Visit Riverbend Hot Springs
Riverbend Hot Springs is a resort and spa located on the Rio Grande River. While there are many places to relax and soak in Truth or Consequences, we had such a great experience at Riverbend Hot Springs that we couldn’t possibly recommend anything else.
Soaking in the hot springs at Riverbend is free for overnight guests, but for $12 an hour anyone can soak in Riverbend’s beautiful hot springs. You can also rent a towel for an additional $2. There are a bunch of different hot springs to choose from, and when you’re all done you can sit in their outdoor sauna. Prepare for a day of zen relaxation.
2. Check out Xochi’s Bookstore
There’s nothing that we love more than a cool old used bookstore, and Xochi’s was a great find. Inside this small bookstore located centrally in Truth or Consequences, you can find anything from encyclopedias and history books to cook books and novels. You’ll want to leave yourself plenty of time to peruse this charming spot.

If you’re looking for a quick and casual lunch spot, you can’t go wrong with A&B Drive-In. Whether you pick your food up from the window or dine in their indoor dining area, you’ll love the American-Mexican fusion style of food they serve.
We ordered the enchilada and burger and both were delicious. The people working at A&B Drive In were also super friendly and helpful, recommending different foods to try and things to do while in town.
4. Visit Rio Bravo Fine Art Gallery
We visited Rio Bravo Fine Art Gallery at the recommendation of an art-loving local. It didn’t disappoint. This sprawling gallery has everything from modern works of art to beautiful jewelry, each piece more colorful than the next. It’s worth it to stop in just to see unique style of New Mexico artists.
The owner of the gallery was around while we visited his gallery. He was very friendly and let us walk around without interrupting us. He also didn’t mind us taking pictures–a first for us in galleries.

7. Grab a beer at Truth or Consequences Brewing Co.
There aren’t exactly many places to grab a drink in Truth or Consequences. Luckily, the one brewery in town is actually a really cool spot. Truth or Consequences Brewing Co. is located on Broadway and has a beautiful tasting room, where it regularly hosts live music events.
There are a bunch of great beers on tap, which are reasonably priced from $5-$8. The bartenders are very friendly and are willing to let you try as many beers as you want to find the beer you want to order. We highly recommend stopping by and having a beer at this one-of-a-kind brewery.

10. Visit Elephant Butte State Park
Less than 10 miles north of Truth or Consequences is Elephant Butte State Park, New Mexico’s largest state park and reservoir. The park allows overnight camping and boat usage, and puts on a fourth of July fireworks show during the summer.
We visited in the winter when much of the water is drained for usage in Texas, but still had an incredible time seeing this picturesque park. If you’re visiting in the summer time, we recommend taking an early morning stroll around the reservoir before things get too busy.

One of the locals who we met in Truth or Consequences that recommended many of the things we did happened to run a small airbnb. And while we didn’t stay there, we were in her check-in area which was absolutely beautiful.
